North Carolina Diabetes Education Recognition Program

Background

• Since 2007, the N.C. Division of Public Health has been awarded recognition by the American Diabetes Association to provide diabetes self-management education
• DPH partners with local health departments to bring the LHD on as "multi-sites" under this umbrella recognition
• ADA recognized programs can bill Medicaid, Medicare and private insurers for self-management training

Purpose

• To increase access to self-management training in all areas of the state
• To provide reimbursement to local health departments for providing this education
• To address health disparities
• To encourage linkages with statewide and community partners
