Project DIRECT Legacy for Men
The project is a collaboration with the Diabetes Prevention & Control Program, Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program, Hyde County Local Health Department, Hyde County Toy Truckers, and the Northeastern North Carolina Partnership for Public Health. The project was funded in September 2009 by REACH SEA-CEA (Southeastern African-American Diabetes, Hypertension, and Stroke REACH US Center of Excellence for Eliminating Disparities) Medical University of South Carolina. The goal is to reduce disparities in diabetes and cardiovascular disease for African-American men in Hyde County. The project follows the community engagement model used by Project DIRECT, a research demonstration and service project administered by the Diabetes Prevention and Control Program until March 2008.
